The new Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM zoom lens is coming soon, at a hefty price tag of around $2500. Canon says the new lens improves on the already outstanding sibling lens, the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS that is loved by many pro photographers and advanced hobbyists. This new version reportedly improves on the speed, performance, and optical quality while offering a minimum focusing distance of 3.9 feet at all zoom settings. It has a new optical image stabilization feature that offers 4 stops of correction at all focal lengths.
Is it worth the high price? Maybe. It depends on your budget and what you would use it for. The good news is that there will be some folks (like me?) who will just “have to have” it and will be selling their “old” version. That means you’ll probably see some good deals on used models of the previous version of this lens!
